The Dark Side...

Good Morning Everyone,

I've been teaching from 2 Peter here at the Church for awhile and I am moved by 2 Peter 2:1-9. Where Peter encouraged believers to build up their faith in chapter 1, he now warns of the flip side of Christianity. What struck me in these passages is Peters love and care as a true shepherd, watching out for the well being of the sheep. He draws a bullseye on the state of deception, not only in the early church, but in our churches today.

   2Pe 2:1  But there arose false prophets also among the people, as among you also there shall be false teachers, who shall privily bring in destructive heresies, denying even the Master that bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction.
2Pe 2:2  And many shall follow their lascivious doings; by reason of whom the way of the truth shall be evil spoken of.
2Pe 2:3  And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not.

I've never seen in my lifetime such a departure from the true Gospel of Jesus Christ. It seems many are searching for some new revelation of God and any way possible to serve Father God except by faith in Jesus Christ His Son. The modern Church has so diluted the Gospel of Grace to fill their seats and their bank accounts, that many have fallen prey to an "Easy Believe-ism". This precious Grace was given freely, but was not free. Grace has never been a license to sin or to create a gospel that fits your wants and desires.

We've always had the greedy ministry that promises prosperity but only benifits the minister. Thats nothing new. But to blindly disregard the unfathomable price that Jesus paid on the Cross for our sins and then to misuse the free gift of Grace so that we can serve a god made in our image grieves me and I'm sure grieves the Holy Spirit.

Heb_10:29  of how much sorer punishment, think ye, shall he be judged worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant wherewith he was sanctified an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
Wake up Church! Don't run after every fad or teaching but hold to the Word of God.

The sad but good news is this...

2Pe 2:4  For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
2Pe 2:5  and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly;
2Pe 2:6  and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly;
2Pe 2:7  and delivered righteous Lot, sore distressed by the lascivious life of the wicked
2Pe 2:8  (for that righteous man dwelling among them, in seeing and hearing, vexed his righteous soul from day to day with their lawless deeds):
2Pe 2:9  the Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptation, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment unto the day of judgment;

May God keep you and bless you as the approaching of Lord comes near.

Pastor Jeff

The world is not always a happy place. There will come a time when you just want to give up. There are times when you do not even want to live anymore. I know this because I have been in countless times. One piece of advice that I can give you is that never give up. No matter how easy it is, do not give up. Once you give up, then there will be nothing left for you, you just disappear.
